BURLINGTON, Mass., USA - The third annual "Career and Technical Education (CTE) 3D Design and 3D Printing" competition will challenge participating teams of Hawaiian high school students with an exercise in practical architecture: to redesign an existing floor plan as an office / bedroom combination for a wheelchair-bound veteran.
Teams must submit a floor plan reflecting changes they have made, as well as a physical 3D model of the room, including walls and required elements, such as a desk, chair, computer, book storage, file storage, and full-size bed. Several Z Corp. 3D printers will be used to produce the 3D architectural models overnight. The speed of Z Corp. 3D printers allows models to be built in hours instead of days and makes that part of the competition possible.

Why - 3D printing effectively communicates the real- world results of the choices students make in their room re-design. Many industries, including architecture, have adopted 3D printing as a regular part of their design process.
