Industry veteran strengthens Geomagic management team, builds on company's strategy for continued market growth

Research Triangle Park, NC, October 6, 2009- Geomagic, a leading provider of 3D software, has appointed Tom Kurke as chief operating officer. His appointment further strengthens Geomagic's leadership position and builds on the company's strategy for continued market growth.

Geomagic software enables companies to create highly accurate 3D models from scanned objects to improve quality and speed processes for product design, reverse engineering, engineering analysis, inspection, and visualization of as-built parts. The company's software is used in a broad range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, consumer products, industrial machinery, dental CAD/CAM, medical, art and science.

Passion, knowledge and experience

"A great company excels on its vision to create value and its ability to execute," says Ping Fu, president and CEO of Geomagic. "Tom brings key operational skills that will enable Geomagic to build a scalable business and serve a growing and broad range of customers. I am delighted to have Tom join as the COO of Geomagic. His passion for operational excellence and deep knowledge of all aspects of the software business make him a great leader for this company."

Kurke joins Geomagic with more than 20 years' experience in the design and engineering software market, including sales, marketing, product management, corporate and business development, engineering and law. Prior to joining Geomagic, he was vice president of subscriptions at Bentley Systems Inc., a leading provider of infrastructure solutions that enable engineers, architects, governments and utilities to design, build and operate more efficiently.

During his tenure at Bentley, Kurke headed many domestic and international business development initiatives, was part of the senior management team that grew Bentley's annual revenues to more than $500 million, and was directly responsible for the global software subscriptions business, which represented nearly 70 percent of the company's annual revenues.

Kurke was previously an attorney with Dechert, an AmLaw 100 firm, focusing on M&A and intellectual property. He earned his law degree from the James E. Beasley School of Law at Temple University, and his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Villanova University.

Investing in the future

Kurke will work closely with Ping Fu to provide leadership in all areas of the company's business.

"I'm pleased to be joining a company that takes advantage of opportunities for increasing market share and is always moving aggressively into new initiatives," says Kurke. "I look forward to concentrating on growing the business and pursuing operational excellence in our traditional and break-out business segments."

Over the last year, Geomagic has demonstrated its commitment to investing in the future by strengthening its leadership team and generating additional capital to fund growth. In addition to its new COO, the company recently brought on board Bob Kody as managing director of the rapidly growing dental business. Last October, Geomagic closed on an $8 million investment from Valhalla Partners.
