'Create, modify, make’ technologies from Geomagic an integral part of 3D Training classes

MORRISVILLE, N.C., March 27, 2012– Geomagic®, the leading provider of 3D software for creating and inspecting digital models of physical objects, and the University of South Florida (USF), are partnering in delivering leading-edge 3D imaging software for the University’s training and educational programs.

USF’s Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies (AIST), a world-renowned team of 3D imaging experts in archeology, geology and related disciplines, uses Geomagic Studio throughout its research work. Now their experience is being expanded out to benefit a broader audience within the University for students from diverse disciplines including engineering, mechanical design and art. AIST now hosts cross-departmental training and studies in learning and using Geomagic software as well as external training events. The aim of this is to introduce 3D digital data as a means to greater learning experiences, and new ways to educate students.

“USF is pioneering in using 3D data to deliver greater learning opportunities during classes, as well as using 3D printed models for artifacts in the classroom instead of using pictures,” said Ping Fu, CEO, Geomagic. “This use of 3D delivers a new learning experience for all students, not just those with the means to travel to specific sites abroad. We are excited to help USF deliver new ways to enhance education, greater research insight using 3D, and artifacts digitally replicated for preservation and documentation.”

The team at AIST uses Geomagic software extensively for its archeological research work across the world, including projects in Mexico, Guatemala, Egypt, Spain and other locations.

“Geomagic is by far the easiest 3D imaging software to use as well as teach,” said Lori Collins, research assistant professor and coordinator at USF AIST. “It is becoming an invaluable tool for many departments as they start to rely on 3D to deliver greater value to students, and more realistic scenarios for learning and simulation.”

Geomagic CEO Ping Fu is a member of the Advisory Board of AIST, a network of leading specialists from the public, private, and academic sectors designed to guide and advise the interdisciplinary core facility in the USF College of Arts and Sciences on advancing its research and education agenda.
