LAKE MARY, Fla., RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., February 9, 2004- FARO Technologies is teaming with Geomagic to offer an integrated system that will measure physical objects and automatically transform them into digital models for design, manufacturing, analysis and inspection.

The system will have a single user interface that drives the FARO ScanArm, a seven-axis measurement device that includes an integrated laser scanner, and Geomagic software to process large scan data. It will increase speed, accuracy and ease of use for applications such as rapid design, custom manufacturing on demand, engineering analysis, computer-aided inspection (CAI), and digital inventory of legacy parts. Customers will receive worldwide support and product updates from FARO.

“The integration of FARO and Geomagic technologies will give our customers an automated and seamless process that stretches from capturing measurement data to generating a highly accurate digital model,” says Simon Raab, FARO’s president and CEO. “FARO will continue to review proposals from other third-party software companies in order to further broaden the digitizing options for its clients.”

“We are delighted to be part of a FARO product that will deliver better, faster and easier design and quality assurance processes to manufacturing customers,” says Ping Fu, Geomagic’s president and CEO.

FARO and Geomagic expect the integrated system to be available in the first quarter of 2004.
