Geomagic Studio 2012 Leads the Industry as the Intelligent Solution for Transforming 3D Scan and Probe Data Into Precise 3D Data and Directly into CAD

MORRISVILLE, N.C., Nov 8, 2011– Geomagic®, the leading provider of 3D software for creating and inspecting digital models of physical objects, today released Geomagic Studio 2012, the latest in 3D scan and probe data transformation into usable polygon and parametric CAD data.

Geomagic Studio 2012 delivers integration with popular MCAD products for reverse engineering, product design, rapid prototyping and analysis. This user-friendly software provides the most efficient means of 3D scan data conversion, bringing new and enhanced features that revolutionize the digital content modeling and manufacturing process. The software has an intuitive user interface that presents simplified commands for complex processes, as well as precise surfacing, powerful automated point cloud data clean up, and rapid surface repair of models. Additionally the software is able to export data directly to manufacturing, CNC, analysis, 3D printing and CAD systems.

Key New Features of Geomagic Studio 2012

Enhancements to Geomagic Studio include enhanced probed data handling, the new Sketch Edit tool, improved Patch commands, greater dexterity with very large data sets, a new scripting environment, integration with SpaceClaim®, and significant performance and data handling improvements.

  • New Sketch Edit for intuitive direct creation and editing of accurate cross-section curves from point clouds, probed data and polygon models.
  • Improved performance in terms of both speed and data capacity via better use of multithreading and improved memory management. Many features will deliver at least a 40% speed improvement over previous releases of Geomagic Studio.
  • User interface improvements such as new polyline selection tool & context-sensitive right mouse menu.
  • New Remesh command processes 3D files generated by third-party applications (e.g. CAD, FEA) to improve mesh density and uniformity for cleaner, more usable 3D models.
  • Significantly upgraded handling of mid-range scanner data and visualization of large point clouds to assist with mechanical and BIM workflows, plus improved walkthrough functions for improved visualization of the 3D data.
  • New Patch command for complex model repair and hole filling.
  • Enhanced support for probing workflows which includes: Accurate measurement and creation of features using touch probes, portable CMM arms and similar equipment; new features for single point circles and min and max points; creating sketches using probe capture and section planes and more.
  • Robust scripting environment extends, customizes and automates functions with deep access into selected commands in the software.
  • Direct CAD model exchange with SpaceClaim® Direct Modeling Software.

Geomagic Studio 2012 has the ability to create precise 3D renditions of physical objects which can, for example, reduce turnaround on replacement parts by up to 95 percent according to some customers, contributing to efficient and cost-effective manufacturing. The ability to create 3D data using Geomagic Studio for use in FEA and CAD systems yields increased design power, rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and analysis and quality control prior to production, thereby resulting in cost effective, superior parts.

Stuart Brown, owner of 3D Engineers, experts at creating rebuildable cars from out-of-production vehicles using Geomagic, commented on the new features of Geomagic Studio 2012. "We can't wait to use Geomagic Studio 2012's Sketcher feature when designing the many vehicles that we focus our business on; it will be especially helpful for building the cross-sections that we need to produce for our bucks and formers, where high levels of accuracy are vital.” Brown continued, “We're also really excited by the additional point cloud handling tools, which will mean that working with the incredible detail delivered by the Noomeo OptiNum scanner that we use and distribute will be a whole lot easier, effective and efficient a process. The 2012 update promises to be an excellent and invaluable one that will tangibly improve our whole work flow and process."

Geomagic Studio can directly transfer history-based 3D CAD data to SolidWorks®, Autodesk® Inventor, CATIA® and Creo Elements/Pro (Pro/ENGINEER). The addition of direct integration into SpaceClaim, a leading 3D direct modeling software, further strengthens Geomagic’s integration into 3D CAD.

Geomagic Studio is also available as a bundle with the Geomagic Qualify software for 3D Inspection. Purchasing both products at the same time results in significant cost-savings and is a popular choice for many customers worldwide.
