RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., January 5, 2005- Geomagic announced that the latest versions of Geomagic Studio reverse-engineering software and Geomagic Qualify computer-aided inspection software have received the highest accuracy certification from Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). The PTB is Germany’s technical authority for metrology and physical safety engineering.

PTB certification is accepted worldwide as the leading indicator of accuracy, comparability and reliability for software that extracts measurement results from 3D scanners and CMM (coordinate measurement machine) devices. Geomagic software automatically processes scan and CMM data from physical objects and transforms it into watertight 3D models for digital reconstruction and redesign, quality inspection, customized manufacturing, and engineering analysis.

“Geomagic software has always been known for its automation, ease-of-use, and ability to handle the extremely large files produced by modern 3D scanners,” says Ping Fu, Geomagic’s president and CEO. “The PTB certification reinforces what our customers have known all along – that our accuracy is among the best in the industry.”

To receive certification, Geomagic’s software passed PTB’s strict standards for surface- and curve-fitting algorithms. Fitting results were accurate to less than 0.1 micrometers in length and 0.1 arcseconds (1/36,000 of a degree) in angle compared to the official reference value.

About Geomagic

Geomagic (www.geomagic.com) is a global company dedicated to advancing and applying 3D technology for the benefit of humanity. Geomagic’s scanning and design software solutions are used to capture and model 3D content from physical objects, organically sculpt complex shapes, and prepare products for manufacturing. In addition, the company produces powerful 3D metrology and inspection software that verifies dimensional quality by comparing as-built products to master designs. Geomagic’s Sensable Phantom haptic devices simulate the sense of touch in a digital environment.

Geomagic’s software and hardware are utilized by world-class customers in a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical, consumer products, toys, collectibles, coindesign, jewelry, fine art, heritage restoration, research, education, mold making, entertainment, training and surgical simulation. In fact, some of the world’s leading companies and research organizationsuse Geomagic software, including Ford, BMW,Boeing, Harley DavidsonTimberland, Mattel/Fisher Price, Lego, Pratt & WhitneyNASA, Schneider Electronic, 3M, Danaher and Invisalign.
