The partnership is poised to bring the full suite of surgical knowledge to the resident and student communities—from readings from the top minds in medicine to practice using the most realistic hands-on surgical training simulators.

McGraw-Hill Professional, a leading global provider of information resources for scientific and medical communities, and Simbionix, the world's leading provider of medical education and simulation, are proud to announce a new collaboration involving McGraw-Hill Professional's online surgical training resource AccessSurgery and the Simbionix MentorLearn system.

This editorial partnership expands the previously announced marketing agreement between the two companies.

The partnership is poised to bring the full suite of surgical knowledge to the resident and student communities—from readings from the top minds in medicine including Schwartz's Principles of Surgery on AccessSurgery, to practice using the most realistic hands-on experience in medical training using surgical simulators.

An institution subscribing to AccessSurgery and using any of the Simbionix simulators will be able to provide residents and students with a targeted reading list covering each simulated procedure offered by Simbionix.

The reading list offered through AccessSurgery will prepare the student with the cognitive skills they need before advancing to the technical skills training on the simulator.  The lists will be contained within AccessSurgery's Custom Curriculum section, where instructors will be able to assign the readings and activities to residents and students prior to attempting the Simbionix module.

From the Simbionix MentorLearn system, users will be able to link to selected readings on AccessSurgery as well as retrieve and engage in the readings and activities.

The first reading lists slated to launch will cover the Simbionix LAP Mentor – the laparoscopic simulator of choice used by leading training centers worldwide.

"We look forward to presenting the surgical community with a partnership aimed at supporting surgical education efforts in a practical manner," said Scott Grillo, Vice President and Group Publisher of McGraw-Hill Professional.

"Combining the medical knowledge strength of McGraw-Hill Professional with the surgical skills simulation strength of Simbionix is a win-win for the residents and students who want to hone their skills before performing in the operating room."

AccessSurgery is a visually-rich resource for surgical education combining leading McGraw-Hill Professional references with surgical videos, animation, interactive board review, and more.  This resource offers medical students, surgical residents, and practicing surgeons fundamental training and clinical reference for general and subspecialty surgical procedures and operations.

"Integrating the Simbionix simulators with McGraw-Hill Professional's AccessSurgery content offers surgical training programs with well thought-out curriculums for their residents," says Paul Jensen, General Manager of the Medical Education Division at Simbionix.

"Following the curriculums will help their residents acquire the cognitive and psychomotor skills they need to reach competency in those procedures."

The Simbionix MentorLearn system is the optimal solution for managing all training and education needs for the Simbionix line of simulators, linking data from all simulators and allowing administration tasks with more ease and in a time-efficient manner.
